Have you ever been in love? You will do anything to help make that person happy. You just love to see them smiling. Doing things for them makes you so happy that you almost glow.
Can you imagine feeling that way everyday of your life; feeling so happy about the work you are doing and the help you are giving people around you, that you glow from within?
When we love God, we can have this life; we can fully live with purpose and enjoy what we do. Col 3, 23-24, whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Jesus Christ you are serving so all that we do can be a labour of love. We need not just go through the motions as a lot of people do. They work, they toil, they strive, but what if there was more to our lives than this? It says in the bible that God wants to send labourers into the harvest field and he's calling you to be one of them.
Matt 9, 36-38, When Jesus saw the crowds, he had compassion for them because they were like a sheep without a shepherd. Then he said to his disciples, "The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few, therefore pray earnestly to the Lord of the harvest to send out labourers into his harvest".
Many people have not heard about Jesus or ever read the bible, so who will help them understand? Many do not realise Jesus can heal their broken hearts; who will share with them that Jesus can heal and restore them? Many don't know how much Jesus loves them despite their wrongs and hurts; who will encourage them? It says in Matt 9 v 36, Jesus was moved with compassion for people. He could see how much need people had, and the vast work needed doing in helping them. He realised that many more workers were needed and the same is true even today not just in bible times!
God is asking us to help him reach the people and tell them about him, but also to care for them and show them compassion. God is asking us to align with his purpose in all things, so our lives can reach their full potential. He wants our work to be fruitful in all things; our giving, our gifts, our motives, our thoughts, our speaking and our actions. God is asking us to step forward and say, "Yes Lord, may my life be a labour of love for the world and to those around me. "Send me Lord, I will go for you". When we truly love Jesus, when we help in this way, we are living to our full potential, we are glowing from within and will carry a labour to love to the world through everything that we have and are.
Prayer: Lord Jesus, I understand that there are a lot of people needing help, compassion, love and encouragement today. Lord I pray you will use my life this week to be your hands and feet and tell people of your love. Help me to be a guiding light to others so they can find you, and give practical help when I can. May all my work be a labour of love for your glory and may all I do be fruitful. Amen. x
